It still functions well. We have had 3 of these that the screen goes out, or it totally looses all power after one light drop or bang. My son's older original version has even been dropped out of a moving vehichle. This new version is not made like the older slightly larger verion. If you expect a toy that is durable, made of good quality materials, and will last then I suggest finding the original one. The components are not identical. The materials are inferior and it cracks and scratches more easily. I took the liberty of taking them apart to verify this.
And it works great on airplanes. My son loves his leapster. There are a great deal of games that he is able to play that are fun and educational.
I have a case, and you always have to make sure when you go somewhere, you have the game inside 'cause if you get someplace, and you only got the case, and no leapster in it, it's not as much fun. I think it's a good game for kids, My mom is getting me the Spongebob game for the car ride to Disneyland. I have a leapster, and I like it. I like my mom's Pretendo (Nintendo), but mine has more games for a little boy. (Review dictated to mama by Ethan, who is four) It's green, and it's got lotsa games inside it, and you can put more in the top of it. I got the doggie game, the one where you wash and pet your dog, and I like it alot, and I got the one where you make creatures, and make rooms for them to live in.
The second one broke and the sound stopped working without any trauma from my kids. The first time one broke it was dropped from about 3 feet. Especially since I could have bought a new one for $9 more.
And for something so pricey, it's disappointing. I received a refurbished one which stopped working the second time it was used. Having 3 leapsters in our house, I can say with certainty- they break.
Very disappointing. And I wish I learned with the first one and registered it with them, as when it broke and called them, I wasn't sure if it was within it's one year 'warranty' period.
They did offer to replace it for about 3/4 of the current price, which I accepted.
We decided to see how our 3 year old would do with the system's games first. We also look for durability in a product, as he is only 3, and his sister is not yet 2.
He has dropped it by accident a few times; again, pleasantly surprised. (She tends to pick up his toys).
This toy has already provided my son with hours of entertainment. He picked up the concept very quickly, and to my surprise, knows exactly what buttons to push with very little help at the start.
no scratches, dents, and still works fine. He doesn't even have a game for it yet.
HE LOVES IT.
